This is something I did for a lyrics workshop at FenCon. We brainstormed a topic and “pirates” and “writers block” tied and then the tiebreaker was “pirates”. But I already had part of the chorus in my head for this so I finished it.
It’s intended to be to the tune of Folsom Prison Blues
***
I want to write of pirates
That sail the open seas
The “Yo-ho!” Jolly Roger
And the weevils, rats and fleas
But the words just aren’t coming
I can’t find any rhymes
So I’ll just repeat the chorus
A couple dozen times
I don’t know what to put here
I don’t know what to say
I have to publish something
Have to finish it today
But the words just aren’t coming
I can’t find any rhymes
So I’ll just repeat the chorus
A couple dozen times.
Some pirates wear gold earrings
And never take a bath
And there’s my second pirate verse
Or maybe just a half
But the words just aren’t coming
I can’t find any rhymes
So I’ll just repeat the chorus
A couple dozen times
This song now has four verses
That ought to be enough
I need to do my laundry
And take care of other stuff
But the words just aren’t coming
I can’t find any rhymes
So I’ll just repeat the chorus
A couple dozen times
The words just aren’t coming
I can’t find any rhymes
So I’ll repeat the chorus
A couple dozen times
And the words just aren’t coming
I can’t find any rhymes
So I’ll repeat the chorus
A couple dozen times
